A sandbox cover to keep animals out is the cheapest piece of child-safety gear you’ll buy this year, and quite possibly the most neglected. Leave the lid off for one night and, to the neighbourhood’s roaming cats, your toddler’s castle-building zone looks suspiciously like a five-star litter box. They aren’t being rude. Soft, loose sand … Read more
Somewhere between the third rainstorm of June and the first heatwave of July, every Canadian parent asks the same question: will this sandbox survive the season, or will it be a warped, faded eyesore by August long weekend? That’s really what the plastic sandbox vs wooden sandbox for toddlers debate comes down to. It isn’t … Read more
There’s a very specific moment every parent of a toddler eventually hits: the couch cushions have become a mountain range, the dog is being used as a step stool, and the kid is somehow standing on the back of the armchair looking extremely pleased about it. That’s usually the point where “maybe we need something … Read more
Somewhere around the third heatwave of the summer, every above ground pool owner in Canada has the same thought: this pool is fine, but it could be more fun. If you’ve been scrolling listings at 11 p.m. trying … Read more
Somewhere between “can we get a trampoline” and “can we get a dog,” most Canadian parents eventually hear the third request: “can we build a rock wall on the swing set?” It’s a good one, honestly — a lot better than the dog. Rock climbing holds for kids playset builds are one of the cheapest, … Read more
Somewhere between the swing set catalogue and the “how much yard do I actually have” math, most Canadian parents land on the same fork in the road: monkey bars vs climbing frame for backyard play. It sounds like a small decision. It isn’t, really — one option asks for a narrow strip of lawn and … Read more
Here’s the thing nobody tells you at the garden centre: most swing sets are designed for yards that don’t actually exist anymore. The classic North American backyard — the quarter-acre with a sprawling lawn — has been quietly shrinking for two decades, especially in and around Canadian cities where townhouses, infill lots, and narrow rear … Read more
